Hey I'm Brian Hyatt and this is Rolling Stone Music Now.

We are going to talk inevitably about the Grammys.

The Grammys happened again. And to talk about the Grammys. The Grammys happened again.

And to talk about the Grammys again,

we have Brittany Spanas, Monkapur-Kante,

and Rob Sheffield.

Welcome all.

Now, Rob argued that these were the best Grammys ever.

I'll maybe start by letting Rob make that case

and then I'll allow some other voices and who may or may not agree.

Well because of the pandemic conditions they were forced to adapt and they actually

pushed the ceremony back almost two months in order to sort of rethink how they were going to do it

under these safe conditions and what they basically ended up doing was just

having a lot of artists play music for almost four hours, which is something that the Grammys, that's usually

something that they're slow to realize is the best part of the ceremony and the only part that people

really care about. And so they had no audience and they had no presenters and they had no stupid comedy bits.

They basically just had the artists on the sound stage playing their own songs.

No like people who are super famous do a bunch of somebody else's songs because their tribute number came up.

And a really beautiful thing just to see the musicians perform at this level of

intensity and also like you know listening to each other and enjoying each other.

So just the intensity of music it's unlike any other Grammy ceremony I've ever seen.

There's this separation that we've talked about before.
