What does it mean to be a fighter and a warrior?

Most of us think of soldiers in combat or prize fighters in the ring, we think of physical toughness.

But fighting is more mental than physical.

Behind every great fighter, warrior, or athlete is an unrelenting mental toughness

that fuels their tenacity. It's what gives them to drop the drive to do one more set in the weight room or go one more round in the ring when they're out of steam when they're out of steam when they get knocked down they get back up

Being a fighter starts with conviction and leads to not giving up, no matter what.

Being a warrior means being relentless. It's a state of mind. That

tenacity has helped me in my own journey. When I was first commissioned as a young officer,

I was assigned to the Air Defense Artillery Branch,

but I joined the military to be boots on the ground,

front towards enemy, so I wanted to join the infantry.

When I didn't get that I requested a transfer a branch transfer to you guessed it the

infantry and time after time I was denied.

I sent a request damn near every week

until finally my branch manager relented

and allowed me to join the infantry.

He said something like, congratulations, Sean, your branch transfer to the infantry has

been approved.

Get ready because you're going to ranger school in a couple of months.

So I got to ranger school and I failed.

I failed the first phase of ranger school.
