Good by Earl was written by our man, Dennis Lindy, a country music legend, initially recorded by the band, the sons of the desert and the late 90s, it never came out.

And then a group then called the Dixie Chicks, now want to be referred to as the Chicks, put it on their fifth studio album, Fly.

It came out in 1999 in August, and it got unsolicited airplay, which was becoming a little more common by the late 90s, but was still pretty rare.

Unsolicited airplay means they had not technically released the song as a single. They did not release the song as a single until early 2000.
