Hey, welcome to Weird House Cinema. This is Rob Lamb. And this is Joe McCormick. Today we're discussing a film that is broadly considered to be one of the big three British folk horror films of the late 60s and early 70s. And as such, one of the legs of the folk horror tripod, if you will, that kind of holds up the rest of the subgenre. Everything that

comes afterwards is built on these three films. It's sometimes argued. The other two films in

this tripod are Robin Hardy's The Wicker Man from 73, which we've covered previously on Weird House

Cinema and a two-parter. Go back and find that one in the audio archives of

Weird House Cinema and stuff to blow your mind wherever you get your podcasts. And then the other leg of

the tripod is 1971's The Blood on Satan's Claw. Today's film, though, is going to be that third

leg. It's going to be 1968's Witch Finder General. Three films that I want

to give everyone a warning that we're going to discuss some level of spoilers for all three films,

which I know might be more of a might drive off some listeners and are like, I don't want to get into spoilers.

We're mostly talking about Witch Finder General, but in discussing the way that this film is pivotal, we're going to discuss some of the, some of the spoilers about the other two. Yeah, and I guess we should, since we're issuing warnings, we should say warning that all three movies in their own ways have disturbing violence in them. You know, so if you're going in, be aware that that's something you

should be prepared for. I'd say the wicker man, the least of the three, the other two, more

disturbing in their own ways. But all three, of course, do not to spoil too much, do have some

pretty messed up stuff going on. Absolutely. But if you are up for a British Folcar triple feature,

if you're going to watch all three films in a weekend

or all three films back to back,

I do recommend watching them in their release order,

which is the opposite order in which I ultimately watch them.

Now, my original intent for this episode of Weird House Cinema was for us to discuss

the blood on Satan's Claw, and that's why we both watched it this weekend.
