And this is Joe McCormick. And today on Weird House Cinema, we're going to be talking about the 1994 supernatural horror film in the mouth of madness, directed by John Carpenter, starring Sam Neal, Julie Carmen, and Juergen Proknau.

This came about because the actor Sam Neal passed away recently,

and Rob, you wanted to do one of his movies on the show. We talked about a couple of options,

but I was really gravitating toward In the Mouth of Madness because I remembered liking it

when I first saw it a few years ago, wanted to watch it again.

And wow, it was actually even better than I remembered.

I think because it comes so late in John Carpenter's filmography is in 1994, I mentally group it with later Carpenter movies from the 90s that I'm personally not incredibly fond of,

like Escape from L.A. and Vampires, Ghosts of Mars, that kind of stuff. But on Revisit,

mouth of madness really punches hard. I don't know if I'd say it's like top three carpenter for me, but it is awesome.

And I would definitely put it on the same shelf, if that makes sense, as my favorites, like the

thing and Prince of Darkness. Yeah, well, as we'll discuss, it very much belongs on that shelf

with those two films. Yeah, in the mouth of madness has been one of my favorites since it came out.

It's generally listed as a 94 film because I believe it debuted at German film festival in August of that year,

but was actually released to U.S. theaters in the dismal February dump month of 1995.

So, you know, not as many people saw it. And I didn't see it until it came out

on home video for rental in July or maybe a little after July, but I bet I was probably on top of it.

And that's because at this point in my life, I was already in love with John Carpenter films,
