Coming up on this episode of the Roundtable.

There is yet another meme that crossed my path today.

It's a brief conversation between a sort of giga-chat with a monocle and a pipe and a soy-facing Woe Jack. So this is probably now becoming

impenetrable already to a lot of people, but I think it will come out in the wash.

So the giga Chad, you know, the muscular gentleman in the suit says,

I don't ever want to work.

The idea of wasting my life at 9 to 5 every week just so I can survive is awful. I want to spend all day with the arts with my

subsistence taken care of." And then the bald guy with the glasses and the beard who spends all

his time with the internet goes, wow, a fellow communist.

And then back to the guy in the suit.

He says, actually I'm an aristocrat,

and you will be my slave.

So what's the joke here?

The joke here is that we live in a society where, you know, the capitalist work ethic is increasingly frowned upon by both ends of the horseshoe.

And we live in a society where the thing that kept that going

was like Democratic patriarchy, where the man was the head of the household and he worked 9 to 5 at a job that didn't

fulfill all of his dreams and fantasies about self actualization. He did the

hard work. He came home and he brought home the bacon, he fed his family and what made the economy go and what made America a productive place where a middle class existed and there was broad-based prosperity was that the guys were stuck with this role and they stoically

accepted the role and they received a certain measure of social and cultural and family power and authority. The Hello and welcome once again to the round table your weekly publishers and editors
