| 0:37.0 | We all woke up this morning to these headlines that the CDC is recommending use of the vaccine be paused. |
| 0:46.0 | This morning the FDA and CDC announced that out of an abundance of caution were recommending a cause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. |
| 0:58.0 | And this is caused by reports of six people who have developed a serious blood clotting condition. |

| 1:08.0 | These cases were in women between ages 18 and 48 and so the CDC and FDA are recommending not requiring but recommending that states temporarily pause administration of the vaccine for two reasons really. |

| 1:30.0 | And then the second is to allow medical providers around the country to assess what's happening and think about how they can talk to their patients about the risks and assess whether they should get the vaccine. |
| 1:43.0 | I also think it's important for us to understand that there have been seven million doses of this vaccine that have been given already and we're talking about six cases that are drawing concern right now. |
| 1:55.0 | So how should people be kind of thinking about the risks of this vaccine and understanding the data of what is really the problem here. |

| 2:09.0 | The decision has drawn some criticism from people who are pointing out exactly as you say these are only six cases out of almost seven million people who have received the Johnson & Johnson shot. |
| 2:20.0 | I know that the information we're providing today is going to be very concerning to Americans who have already received the Johnson & Johnson or Johnson vaccine. |
| 2:32.0 | And I want to let you know what we're doing to learn more and to protect people in the meantime and what you can do to be on the alert. |
| 2:40.0 | And there's two things I would say here the first is we don't know for certain that these cases wouldn't have developed without the vaccine blood clots happen there rare but they happen in the general population so that's the first point to be made and the second point is even if there is a connection between the vaccine and the development of these blood clots it's still true that this is extremely rare. |
