Summary

This is a really important topic for me; it’s one of the reasons I started ManTalks. In this episode, I check out why men seem to only turn things around after everything’s on fire.  I dive a bit into the shadow aspects of modern masculine culture, and how they amplify the problem (hint: shame is a big player).  Every man’s journey is different, but there’s one thing we all need--and I mean need--to do: challenge the narrative that suppression equals strength. Listen in to hear why, and as always, let me know your take; leave a rating or review. Also, share this with someone you think would benefit! Are you looking to find your purpose, navigate transition or fix your relationships, all with a powerful group of men from around the world? wait until shit is really bad to fix things and why we as men tend to wait until it's

0:34.9

almost too late to take action in our life. So really to summarize,

0:41.0

why do we wait until rock bottom in order to make things better? I get this question a lot,

0:46.2

so I thought I would address it head on. So here's the question. Ten months after our biggest

0:51.4

crisis and in the 22 years of marriage, my husband is finally doing everything

0:56.3

I had been asking for for the past 10 years. Why now? Why after so much pain? Why after

1:02.3

infidelity? Why after being so close to divorce? Why after separating? Is he finally

1:08.8

stepping into this power? Why did he take so long? And after almost

1:14.0

burning everything to the ground and almost losing everything, I feel like I'm at my end.

1:19.1

Why doing it partially for me after what he did to me? I don't understand why the pain.

1:26.6

Okay. So here we go. This is what I get why the pain. Okay.

1:29.4

So here we go.

1:31.8

This is what I get all the time.

1:36.0

I have a lot of people reaching out asking me this very same question.

1:39.3

I get women reaching out saying, why do men do this?

1:43.3

And I get men reaching out saying, why can't I stop doing this? Why do I continue to self-destruct

1:47.7

and not seek help, not get support until the very last moment? There's a few reasons for this.

1:55.7

And, you know, one of, I'm in the process of writing a book and I've actually, I have a big section,

2:02.7

or a small section, I guess you could say, on this exact thing.

2:06.0

But I'm going to talk about it a little bit here and give a bit of a different context.

2:10.4

So there's a few reasons why we do this.
