Summary

Hour 3 of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show delivers a powerful mix of political analysis, cultural commentary, and heartfelt reflection in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. This hour features an exclusive interview with Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, who discusses President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Memphis to combat violent crime and gang activity. Blackburn outlines the success of recent federal operations like Operation Viper and emphasizes the strategic importance of Memphis as a logistics hub vulnerable to organized crime.

The hour also explores the cultural and moral decay exposed by the public celebration of Kirk’s death, particularly among taxpayer-funded employees. Clay and Buck highlight the firing of a University of Tennessee professor who posted vile comments about Kirk’s family, reinforcing their call for accountability and moral standards in public institutions. They argue that celebrating political assassination is a failure of basic humanity and should result in termination from any publicly funded role.

Listeners hear from callers across the country, including parents whose children are starting Turning Point USA chapters in honor of Charlie Kirk’s legacy. The hosts celebrate this grassroots movement as a positive response to tragedy, encouraging young Americans to stand up for free speech, faith, and conservative values.

A standout moment comes from University of Oregon football coach Dan Lanning, who publicly condemned Kirk’s assassination and expressed support for his family. Clay and Buck praise Lanning’s courage in speaking out from a blue state, urging listeners to support cultural figures who take principled stands.

The hour also touches on the role of social media in radicalizing youth, with Senator Blackburn advocating for stronger online safety legislation and parental involvement. The hosts emphasize the importance of reaching young audiences through modern platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, continuing Charlie Kirk’s mission to meet people where they are.

We are joined now by Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.

We're going to dive into President Trump's announcement last week that he's going to be bringing the National Guard into Memphis, which according to many measures of violent

0:22.3

crime on a per capita basis may well be the most dangerous city in the entire country.

0:29.4

But I want to start with this, Center Blackburn.

0:32.5

First of all, I missed you in Knoxville, where you and I were both attending the Georgia, Tennessee game, which

0:39.5

did not end well for the good guys, in this case, the team wearing orange. But I know that you

0:45.6

were all over the place there. And it's a sporting event, but I bet you had a similar experience

0:52.8

as I did, Senator Blackburn, which is the number of people who came up to me that wanted to talk about what happened to Charlie Kirk, even at a sporting event, was unlike anything I've ever seen before.

1:09.6

Usually people want to come up and it's almost exclusively, hey, who's going to win the game?

1:13.3

What do you think is going to happen?

1:14.7

Almost everybody that came up to me at the sporting event wanted to talk about the Charlie Kirk situation.

1:20.7

I've not asked you this, but I bet you found it to be similar as well.

1:24.6

And I know you have a grandson that attends the same school as my sons.

1:29.2

And the impact on young men in particular of this assassination has been extraordinarily awful.

1:36.9

But their response has been, I have seen, very profoundly courageous.

1:41.9

I've been very encouraged.

1:42.9

So that's a big prelude, but I'm curious

1:45.2

what you found in both those situations. Yes, indeed. I will tell you, I have been just so

1:52.5

honored by the conduct of my grandsons and their classmates and how they held a memorial

1:59.7

for Charlie Kirk and for the remembrance of 9-11.
