today I'm reflecting on an article I read in Forge entitled, if you want to help

others you must learn to say no. It's my by Mia Bird Song and I'll reference it in the show notes. It talks about in order to effectively

care for ourselves, we have to be aware of ourselves.

That self-awareness is critical for us individually,

but it's also critical to having workable relationships.

I know that in my time at Rainbow Village as the CEO, it was easy, it became easy for me to say no to people that were seeking help that we knew were genuinely using the system that they had no intentions of doing the work that was necessary at Rainbow Village to be accountable and to follow a program because they weren't ready or able or willing

to change their circumstances and we became pretty astute to learning which ones were and which ones weren't.

And it was an easy no because the resources are few and the need was tremendous.

So in order to be good stewards, we knew that we had to be highly selective of the families that

we brought into the program and that we had to encourage them to do their best and to overcome their trials and tribulations

and to become whole healthy families. And that wasn't easy, yes, for those that were willing and able,

but for those who were using the system it was equally an easy no.
