What's up, everyone? I'm hoping that you missed me. I've been gone for two weeks, but I'm back. I'm back ready to do the show with Nando and Ben Burgess, who's joining us later for our interview segment.

0:27.0

I missed you dearly, and I had to handle all the hosty bits, and lead the opening segment and all that stuff, and I was crumbling under the pressure. I'm usually in and it does all the heavy lifting around here, and I just got a gap away and deliver my hot takes, and it's hard to be the main host.

0:48.0

Yeah, I'm really humbled when people say that to me, because obviously I was also away from TYT for the week, and I love it when I come back and people are like, oh, thank God, I don't want to keep doing this.

1:02.0

I'm like, yes, because I think sometimes people, they think it's easy, they underestimate doing on-air stuff, but no, you got to figure out when to move a conversation along and all of that.

1:14.0

But I missed you, and I missed the show. I got to say, doing this show on a regular basis forces me to learn things that I think I otherwise wouldn't have the time to explore, and that's prepared me for the debate with Ben Shapiro, in terms of the parts of the debate that I think were relevant and important.

1:35.0

So we're going to talk about that later with Ben, because he's the king of logic. He knows how to give people an argument, and we also have some awesome decodes prepared, including the interruption to the supply chain.

1:49.0

What's really at foot, Nando is going to give us the details on that, and then I'll talk about the other half of the labor shortage.

1:58.0

I don't think it's discussed enough, and that's the lack of childcare. You've touched on that in the past, Nando, but I wanted to talk about how the markets specifically fail the childcare system.

2:09.0

Yeah, no, I'm very excited for your decode. I'm a recent uncle for the first time, and my sister just gave birth to a lovely, beautiful baby boy, and the issues of childcare are now top of mind, as they say.

2:27.0

You know, something that I've just never previously had to deal with on a personal level that now, so very interested to hear what you have to say about that.

2:38.0

All right. Well, before we get to all of that, why don't we talk a little bit about some interesting labor activity that's taking place in the country.

2:47.0

In fact, about 10,000 John Deere workers have gone on strike, and I'm going to get back to the details on that.

2:55.0

But what's important to keep in mind is that they're not the only workers who are using their leverage in today's economy to get better working conditions, better pay, and show some pretty incredible solidarity with their fellow workers.

3:10.0

So let me give you the details on what's going on. More than 100,000 unionized employees between Hollywood production crew members, John Deere factory workers and Kaiser Permanente nurses have overwhelmingly voted to authorize strikes and are preparing to join the picket line unless they get stronger collective bargaining agreements, and John Deere did in fact end up going on strike.

3:34.0

No, about 60,000 TV and film production crew workers will go on strike on Monday if their union cannot secure a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and television producers, which represents Hollywood and streaming giants such as the Walt Disney company Warner Brothers and Netflix.

3:53.0

And they're demanding exactly what you would expect workers to demand, you know, simple things like, you know, longer meal breaks so they can actually enjoy a meal, better wages, and they also want an end.

4:06.0

This is my favorite part to lower pay for producers who just happen to be working on streaming shows. They tend to get paid less than those who do the production work for television shows.

4:18.0

Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, the the the yacht see the yacht see thing. I mean, it's Friday and they have to Monday and this will shut this town down the town that you and I both live in L.A.

4:36.0

Everyone's talking about it and it's just it's it's pretty wild. I mean, like they they it's it would be absolutely unprecedented. I mean, I did my whole decode about it last week, but it would be absolutely unprecedented, like a shutdown like this. The the last time a kind of major Hollywood labor action happened was the writer strike in 2008, but the writers like just don't have the power to shut this all down the way the crews do.

5:01.0

You know, there's scripts line around. There's plenty of scripts line around that they could shoot. But if this if the crew doesn't participate, they can't do anything.

5:12.0

Yeah, I mean, this is what power looks like, right? Knowing that you have some level of power that you can use as leverage against the employers to get better obviously collective bargaining.

5:26.0

So let's also talk a little bit about Kaiser Permanente. We're talking about nurses here who haven't gotten a break at all during the pandemic. They're overworked. They're burnt out.
