Summary

This week on The Sports Agents,

As the French public head to the polls on Sunday for the final round of voting in their own National Election, Gabby and Mark reflect on the significance of France's Euros campaign after Kylian Mbappe and co. urged young voters to resist the rise of the far-right.

Gabby & Mark caught up with French football writer Tom Williams and our own Jon Sopel to explore a complicated history between the country and it's men's national team.

And ahead of the British Grand Prix, McLaren's Lando Norris joined us in studio for a fascinating interview, just days after his Austria crash with friend and rival Max Verstappen.

In a wide-ranging interview he explains the speed of thought required to make split-second decisions while driving at speeds of over 200mph and what it would trade to win his home race!

New episodes every Tuesday and Thursday.

Hi there, just me this week, running you through what we've been up to with another weekend edition of The Sports Agents With Gabby Logan and Mark Chapman.

0:26.2

Ahead of the British Grand Prix, I sat down with McLaren driver Lando Norris

0:29.7

to go through the controversial finale to the race in Austria

0:32.4

and how he's preparing to drive in front of a home crowd.

0:35.7

But first, as members of the France national team

0:38.1

have continuously faced questions over what's happening politically in their country,

0:42.1

football writer and author Tom Williams joined me to talk about

0:44.8

just how significant these Euros are

0:46.8

and how the polls could affect the Olympics in Paris this summer.

0:50.6

So obviously we knew even before the tournament began

0:53.0

that these elections were on the way and

0:54.8

you know, it has been every French TV news channel, every French newspaper, it is the front page

1:00.7

every day, much as it is in the UK as we build up to our own election. And in the first,

1:06.8

the first days prior to the tournament when players were coming in to speak to the media, they were asked about the elections. You know, do you think it's important that people vote, etc, etc. And the first players who spoke to the media were quite kind of cautious. I think Olivier Giroux was won, Benjamin Pavar, Husband Embell. And they all said, of course you should vote. It's very important that you should vote. But, you know, voting, it's a personal choice. That's as far as they went. The person who really sort of shifted the dial was Marcus Durham. He spoke to the media a day or two before Mbapé did, and he said, we are at a moment of crisis for our country. We have to do everything in our power to stop Hassanamo National Rally from getting in

1:45.4

because these are not people who want what is good for France

1:48.7

and who promotes the values of diversity and inclusion and tolerance

1:53.6

that we all believe in.

1:55.4

So in a way, Turham kind of prepared the ground for Mbapé,

1:58.3

who when he spoke to the media, made a similar kind of message.

2:02.8

But whereas Tuham had specifically spoken about the threat that Assemblement National, the

2:09.3

far-right party pose, Mbapé spoke about...
