Today, we continue our reflection on the Second London Confession, Chapter 15, Paragraph 3.

This saving repentance is an evangelical grace whereby a person, being by the Holy Spirit

made sensible of the manifold evils of his sin, does, by faith in Christ, humble himself

for it with godly sorrow, detestation of it, and self-aborancy, praying for pardon and

strength of grace with a purpose and endeavor by supplies of the Spirit to walk before

God unto all well pleasing in all things.

Chapter 15 is all about repentance.

So what is repentance?

That's what this paragraph is about.

The Baptist Catechism says it this way in Question 92.

What is repentance under life?

Repentance under life is a saving grace whereby a sinner, out of a true sense of his sin

and apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ, doth with grief and hatred of his sin turn

from it unto God, with full purpose of and endeavor after new obedience.

Or an even simpler definition of repentance comes from James Pettigrew Boise's Catechism

of Bible Doctrine.

What is repentance?

It is sorrow for sin accompanied by a determination with the help of God to sin no longer.

Both of these Catechetical responses are good and biblical, but what they are doing is they

are reflecting what we see in greater detail in Chapter 15 paragraph 3 of the 1689.
