Summary

I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;

I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.

I will be filled with joy because of you.

I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. (Psalm 9:1–2 NLT)

There is a story in the book of Luke where Jesus heals ten men with leprosy. The lepers saw Jesus coming, stood at a distance, and called out for him to heal them. When he did, just one of the lepers came back to thank him. The leper didn’t just thank him, he praised him in a loud voice and threw himself at Jesus’s feet. He was filled with gratitude.

This man’s life was changed; he knew it and he was not going to be silent about it. The crazy thing is that this man was a Samaritan, meaning he had never known the one true God until Jesus came and changed his life forever. That type of gratitude, that realization that Jesus has completely saved us, moves us to love Jesus more.

We live in a much easier world. There is no leprosy for us to fear, medical care is accessible, and grocery stores are fully stocked. We can even have something delivered to us the same day, using just our face to pay. Our life is pretty good! It’s amazing! The downside is that it’s a lot harder to feel grateful for the everyday things God has blessed us with. Our hearts are easily hardened and discontent.

But we can be truly grateful for the gift of salvation every single day. Life may not be perfect every day, but Jesus loves us every day. Having a thankful heart toward him will draw us closer to him and increase our joy! It’s hard to be grumpy when you are being thankful!

Let’s pray that our kids recognize Jesus’s gifts to them every day and that they move closer to him and praise him in response!

Lord, I pray that you would remind __________ daily of your love for them, that they would practice praising you for who you are and thanking you for your many blessings on a regular basis, that you would cultivate in them a grateful heart, and that you would help me model this in our home too!

Happy Thanksgiving week.

I don't know what your week is like, but I get Ella home, which I'm so excited. I've been waiting for this to have her in the house again for a week, and I've just missed her so much. And so normally we travel. We go either to my family's, my mom and dad's house, or Ron's mom and dad, because we've lived so far from family that we always try to go back and visit everybody at Thanksgiving. And that means y'all I've never really cooked Thanksgiving, maybe once or twice, but I've just been mooching off people for all these years. And I wonder why I can't cook. But I started thinking, I'm like, I can do this. I really can do this. And so Ron and I were talking, the girls and I were talking, like maybe we each pick our favorite thing and we cook together. And then Ron reminded me, I'm out of another, I got out of it again because we're going to the Cowboys game. And because Ron's company is a sponsor of the Cowboys, they invited us to come Thanksgiving Day to the game with the Chiefs. I'm hoping Taylor Swift will walk by, and I can just give her a little hug and say, I'm thankful for you, Taylor. Probably won't see her, but Post Malone is playing, and Ron's like, why didn't they ask me? Because y'all know he's in a band. He's like, I wonder if they need me to play the drums. but all of that to say, I'm really excited for it to be the four of us

that we so perfectly plan, the Christian parenting people put this as the week to talk about

oh most high. And in the story of the healed leopard, it is in Luke where Jesus heals about 10 men that have leprosy.

2:02.6

And the lepers saw him coming.

2:04.3

They're calling out to him.

2:05.4

But only one of them thanked him.

2:07.7

Only one of them went back to thank him and praised him with the loud voice.

2:12.8

And I think that's an interesting point about gratitude.

2:15.8

And later in the verses, it actually says

2:18.0

that God was disappointed in the nine. I've really never remembered that part of the story,

2:23.4

that it literally says God was disappointed. And I'm such a people pleaser. I'm like,

2:27.4

Lord, don't be disappointed in me. But yeah, he does care that we are expressing thankfulness

2:32.8

and gratitude to him. And for all that he's done
