What's up everyone? Welcome back to the Epic Gardening Podcast. This is our final

0:06.7

episode so sad with Nicole Masters, the International Agrocologist who's been just

0:12.2

dropping some really, really helpful and complete knowledge on soil health, signals between plants, insects, and today we're talking about the signals we as gardeners are sending to

0:24.7

our plants in our garden as well as just weeds in general. How are we cultivating

0:29.7

weeds without actually knowing it? And this is really interesting. I'm I don't think I've ever

0:34.8

thought about it quite this way. So Nicole, do you mind sort of explaining what you mean by us sending

0:40.0

signals to weeds? First I'd like to just define what I mean by a weed because some people

environmental conditions so you want to look at what is the condition that I'm

1:17.9

providing what are they trying to tell me is it I've got bear disturbed soil is

1:22.2

it that I've got low organic matter is it

1:25.5

Mineral imbalances microbial balances or what I call the safety valve weeds so I do like a whole day just on this topic. So it's trying to figure out what's most succinct for you, but it's looking at what is the signal that you're sending because that determines who germinates.

1:43.0

So if you are seeing, for instance, a lot of broadleaf weeds,

1:48.0

and so I'm thinking, what have you got?

1:50.7

You've probably got Doc, or what else have you got you got we do not plantain

1:56.8

fissles things like that just trying to think

2:00.7

Kevin what you might have you said you don't have any.

2:03.3

Hmm. Okay, so but I mean I don't the thing the thing with me is I get so few I
