Dallas Willard Well, inflation didn't disappear in August.

The Consumer Price Index rose 0.1% from July to August, when economists were predicting

a 0.1% decline.

The increase was driven largely by the rising costs of food, shelter, and medical services,

and offset some by a sharp decline in gas prices.

Annual inflation now sits at 8.3%, down from its recent peak of 9.1% in June, but well

above the Fed's target of 2%.

The markets were unenthused.

The not-good inflation news killed investors' recent optimism that the Federal Reserve may

become less aggressive in raising interest rates over the coming months.

The S&P 500 closed down 4.3% yesterday.

It's worst in over two years.

The Dow Jones dropped more than 1200.
