Welcome to Wednesday One Shots, the series where we share a bite-size bonus story with you to help you get through the week.

This time around we have a story by a listener named Ravenclaw Girl.

I live in a town that's not super small but also not quite a city.

I live in the busier part of this town.

My parents decided to go out for the evening and my sister

wasn't home, so I was left at the house by myself with our dog. I was sitting in the living

room watching the vampire diaries, as I always do, and I was getting a bit hungry,

so I got up to make myself a sandwich. We have a dog door for our dog that comes from outside

and enters into our living room. I heard the dog door flap open and then closed.

Without thinking too much of it, I didn't look away from my unmade sandwich.

I just figured that it was my dog going outside.

Then, very quickly after, I heard the doggy door open and close again. This was pretty irregular for my dog. This got my attention

so I turned around to face the living room. I saw a hand reaching inside of my house through the doggy door. The hand was feeling around

the back of the door trying to find the lock. I began to panic. I realized that my dog was still in my room.

I quietly walked down the hall to my room,

making sure to keep my eyes on that doggy door the entire time.

I opened my bedroom door and I let my dog out.

I then grabbed my sister's softball bat and sat facing the doggy door.

The hand continued to creep its way up under the flap. I quietly stood up, trying my best not to cry or make any noise.

Then, with no warning to the intruder, I swung the bat as hard as I could, smashing into their hand.

I heard a yell, followed by the sound of footsteps running away.

I went back to my room and I cried for the rest of the night.
