Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois and Republican Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas

are asking U.S. regulators to address unfair practices in airlines' frequent flyer programs.

The two senators sent a letter asking the Department of Transportation and the Consumer

Financial Protection Bureau to help, quote, protect consumers against unfair and deceptive

practices in airlines' frequent flyer and loyalty programs, end quote. And if you don't know

what a frequent flyer program is, it encourages customer loyalty where you can earn points or miles

for traveling with a specific airline and then hopefully accumulate enough points to book a flight

without spending more money. The senators believe the programs have evolved into

convincing consumers to sign up for the airline's co-branded credit cards and that the loyalty
