The Core 4. The four headlines you need to know. Former Vice President Mike Pence has been told

he must testify before a grand jury about his conversations with former President Donald Trump

in the time leading up to the Capitol attack.

However, Pence does not have to testify about his actions on the day of the riot.

Earlier this year, Pence was subpoenaed, but Trump argued that executive privilege barred Pence

from testifying, while Pence argued that constitutional protections for lawmakers

prevented him from testifying. U.S. District Court Judge James Bosberg rejected Trump's

executive privilege claim, but he ruled that the, quote, speech or debate clause in the Constitution

does shield Pence from having to testify about his official actions on January 6th.

The state of California is trying to hold the oil industry responsible for price gouging.

Now, if you remember last summer, when oil prices shot through the roof, our elected officials in Congress

failed to pass a bill which would have created a committee to

investigate oil companies that may have unjustly been raising their prices and taking advantage

of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Well, California, at the request of Governor Gavin Newsom decided

to do it themselves. And yesterday, Newsom signed a bill that will create a five-person board

that could investigate oil companies and choose to penalize them if they are caught price gouging.
