| 0:13.7 | Today marks the 60th anniversary of one of the most important political events of the 20th century, |
| 0:18.8 | but frankly it wasn't recognized as such at the time. |
| 0:22.8 | It was 60 years ago at a United Auto Workers' Retreat, |
| 0:26.4 | known as Port Huron in Michigan, |
| 0:28.6 | that a group of young liberal activists |
| 0:31.2 | released a statement that became known as the Port Huron statement. |
| 0:34.7 | That statement became the manifesto for what developed in the United States as the new left. |
| 0:40.4 | And we are reaping the whirlwind that was established set loose back 60 years ago today |
| 0:46.8 | in the United States right now. |
| 0:48.8 | And as there are so many things happening that are very current around us. We need to step back for a moment |
| 0:53.2 | and go back 60 years in order to understand where some of the most important leftist |
| 0:58.5 | currents now very much driving our contemporary culture where they came from, how they emerged, what |

| 1:10.5 | the time, a retreat of the United Auto Workers, it's now known as Lakeport State Park there in Michigan. |

| 1:21.2 | It still is in one sense, but it's nowhere near as powerful now as it |
| 1:24.7 | was then and you had organized labor basically allowing these very young liberal activists to use the retreat center but frankly they set |
