Tragedy struck a 4th of July parade in the affluent Chicago suburb of Highland Park,

Illinois.

Three quarters of the way through the parade, a man started shooting a high-powered rifle

from a rooftop, killing seven people and injuring 30 more.

Victims ages range from 8 to 85 years old.

After an hour's long search and a brief chase Monday evening, police apprehended a 21-year

old who was charged with seven counts of first-degree murder yesterday evening.

No motive has been released.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker called the event devastating before advocating for gun

reform, saying that while the 4th of July comes once a year, mass shootings have become

a weekly American tradition.

The shooting comes just over a week after President Biden signed a bipartisan gun reform

bill, the most significant gun legislation in decades.
