Yesterday, the Senate Homeland Security Committee held a hearing about the January 6th Capitol

riot, where there was testimony by former security officials about the failure to prevent

the deadly insurrection.

There was testimony from former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Stephen Sund, former House Sergeant

and Arms Paul Irbing, and former Senate Sergeant and Arms Michael Stanger, who all resigned

after the attack, as well as Michael Conte, the Acting Chief of the DC Police.

The hearing was interesting, you could say, because several senators who supported the

riot also took part in it.

The hearing made clear that communication issues around the FBI's warning about the insurrection

put lives at risk.

Former Capitol Police Chief Stephen Sund said that he and other leaders didn't learn about

the FBI's warning of a war on the Capitol until this week.

But this isn't lawmakers also highlighted the role of white supremacists in the pro-Trump

mob, although many prominent Republicans tried to downplay their involvement.

Such as Senator Ron Johnson, who used his time at the hearing to read from an article from

a conservative publication, which suggested that left-wing agitators and fake Trump supporters

were responsible for the attack.

This theory has been widely debunked.

Senator Josh Hawley, who one could argue, is also on the hook for inciting the insurrection.
