Yesterday, Russian state news agencies announced the death of Mikhail Gorbachev.

He had been the last president of the USSR, and also the last general Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

By any measure he lived one of the most important lives in the 20th century as we think about world affairs.

It was Mikhail Gorbachev, who was at the helm of the Soviet Union when it eventually dissipated

An unexpected development just in terms of the Cold War and the flow of world
