| 0:14.3 | We knew it was coming for several days, but still yesterday it came as a shock to the |
| 0:18.1 | American body politic and to the American moral conscience. |
| 0:22.7 | What we saw yesterday was in the name of justice, but at the very same time we understood it |
| 0:27.4 | bearing the weight of history. |
| 0:29.1 | We had a former president of the United States, as the British would say, sitting in the |

| 0:34.2 | That has never happened before. |
| 0:35.9 | It's unprecedented in American history, and it's not unprecedented because there have |
| 0:40.3 | not been opportunities previously to indict American presidents on criminal charges or |
| 0:46.0 | former presidents. |
| 0:47.6 | But because in this country, the fear of using the legal system as a matter of political |
| 0:52.5 | retribution and just thinking about the symbolic nature of an American president being the |
| 0:58.0 | subject of a criminal trial, all of this had put a significant set of breaks on the |
| 1:03.8 | American political and legal system in such a way that this just hasn't happened before. |
| 1:08.9 | But now it has, and as yesterday unfolded with all the helicopters in the air with all |
| 1:13.7 | the reporters there at the courthouse, although very few actually in the courtroom, with video |
| 1:19.4 | about the president getting into the building going down a corridor and then the still |
| 1:24.1 | photographs of the former president sitting in the courtroom, all of this still probably |
| 1:29.0 | hasn't settled in in terms of the enormity of the issues involved for the American people. |
