As Atlas Obscira put it in a 2016 article exploring this idea, quote,

It's entirely possible that someone alive today on Earth will be the first person to die on Mars.

Eerie, but true, because getting humans to Mars is becoming more and more of a reality,

and even if the mission is successful,

many of the plans are for it to be a one-way flight. So eventually, someone will die on Mars,
