Every Friday we recap the biggest stories, the strangest stories, and the news that perhaps went under the radar from the last week with some of your favourite bonker personalities and also maybe some panellists from, oh god, what now. Today, we are joined by one of those favourite personalities. It's award-winning historian and journalist Seth Tevow. How are you, Seth? I'm very well, thanks, and you? I'm all right. Let's start with something that's maybe not wildly depressing because that's a nice way to start this podcast. That's a novelty these days. It's the banknotes. The Bank of England is suggesting a spread of British wildlife to go onto the banknotes to replace the historical figures that we've seen lately. Amongst the contenders are a puffin, a bumblebee and a common frog. They're in the race to place Winston Churchill and other historical figures.

People have got a month to offer their views on the consultation of what should go onto the £5, £10, £20 and £50 £50 notes.

But there was a bit of a backlash against this when it was announced last year. It wasn't this, Seth. Yeah, I mean, it was mainly people on the right of the culture wars, arguing how dare you replace Winston Churchill. To be fair, Winston Churchill's own family are pretty laid back about this. Yes. They've said we know it's a great honor for him to have been there at all, and it wasn't going to be there forever and perhaps his time has come.

I think the operative part is actually the replacing with a badger of it. It's that, you know, these are four substantive figures. You know, we're talking about Alan Turing, Jane Austen and JMW Turner. And, you know, we can make cases for why they are or aren't the greatest Britain and all these sorts of things. But ultimately, if you're going to replace anyone with a stout, it's going to be a bit embarrassing. Yes, this is true. I mean, it wasn't just crazy right way.
