Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by the entire We Are Lizards crew!
What is We.Are.Lizards, you ask? What, are you kidding me right now? Just playing. For the uninitiated, We.Are.Lizards is the legendary club night founded, developed and evolved by Pip and the whole entourage right here. It took place in the Book Club in Shoreditch, featuring the resident cast here but also a splendid selection of very special guests who you will surely be aware of… Zane Lowe, DJ Yoda, Don Letts, Lindy Layton, ah come on, so many more. But as with most regular club nights, to many it became a high point of the month, a family, dare I say a home, but also a meeting point and proper hot spot for so many people as well. It was always well attended, staffed, and co-ordinated, and the behind the scenes life is as fascinating and awesome as the on the scene one. So please, get yourself appropriately prepared for a glimpse into a brilliant club night, and hear the origin story from the people who made it (aside from the punters of course!) - PART 1 OF 2! Stay tuned til Friday folks…

0:09.8 | A lot of you will know that for 10 years I had a club night called We Are Lizards. You used to have to hear me promoting on the intros and outros of this podcast. |
0:19.7 | We ended up having 10 years of sold out shows, which is absolutely insane. And then at the end of 2019, we decided to call it a day. |
0:26.6 | It turns out that was the best time in ever because a few months later a pandemic hit an every club closed, but that was almost two years ago to the day. |
0:37.0 | So I thought I'd get the lads back together. Me, Stu Wiffin, DJ destruction, aka Ross, disco tech credits, aka Bill and Christopher Glassen. |
0:50.0 | I thought I'd get the lads back together and yeah, see, see if we've got some good stories and reminisce because you got to remember that We Are Lizards is where the drunk cast kind of idea came from. |
1:01.0 | It was us pissing about and being wallies there that started all that. And that there will also be it should be up now and accompanying Spotify playlist that all of us put forward some tracks. |
1:15.0 | So you can have a little where Lizards party in your living room, in your headphones on the bus, on the way to work, wherever you listen. |
1:25.0 | Yeah, it's a two part because we really got into it. But yeah, this is episode 400 and I should mention speech available records is where you can get on my merch. |
1:34.0 | Patreon.com forward slash screwbias pip is where you can get a you can support the podcast on Patreon. But for now, this is part one of episode 421 of the distraction pieces podcast. We were lizards. |
2:04.0 | The distraction is reason for the attention. |
2:10.0 | Right, I am here today with Stuart Wiffin. Hello, Stu. Hello, a regular on the podcast, but two people who don't think I've had on before I've heard them on numerous of Wiffins podcast. |
2:23.0 | But they're two of our we are lizards crew. It's Ross. I mean, AKA DJ destruction. How you doing, Ross? All good. Good to be here. And the light ball shepherd, AKA this go tech credits. How you doing, Bill? |
2:42.0 | Hi, Jen. Good to see you. That's only a joke, because as we've explained before we got rolling, you were never actually late, but you gave me and Stu regular heart attacks, because you would always arrive sometimes within five minutes of your set. |
2:57.0 | But it's dangerous, because if you're cycling and people are texting you, where are you? You have to start or trying to. |
3:03.0 | Yeah, it's completely true. Imagine getting there a bit earlier, but yeah, it's it's good fun. We're meant to have Chris here, who is the fifth lizard, but he's not turned up so far, which is quite appropriate. |
3:19.0 | Because one of the things I had noted was the amount of times Chris told us with two or three days to go that he was like on a ski lift in Austria and completely didn't realize where the club night. How was that for you, Stuart? Definitely happened at least once a year, didn't it? |
3:39.0 | Here you go. Oh, Lads, that is when we'd send through the set times and we'd all been promoting the club night for weeks, posting about it, really trying to bring the crowds in and then Chris had go, oh, I'm, I'm actually on a ski holiday. |
3:53.0 | I think you're being generous, but saying that was once a year. |
3:58.0 | I probably say that was maybe two or three times a year. I mean, only a six events most years anyway. |
4:04.0 | I know one year he missed more than he attended. But I think average and out there was definitely a good few years at the start that he made all of them. |
4:15.0 | Yeah, it was quite, it was quite a hit of miss. But yeah, well, we decided to have this catch up because in 2019 or the end of 2019, we ended. |
