Tonight's teaching text is Habakkuk 3, 16 through 19.

I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound.

Decay crept into my bones and my legs trembled.

Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the

vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food. Though there are no sheep in the pen

and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord.

I will be joyful in God, my Savior. The sovereign Lord is my strength. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer.

He enables me to tread on the heights. This is the word of the Lord.

I'm the teaching pastor here.

And today we continue our series, We Want You Here, in which we are discussing prayer

and looking at examples of prayers throughout the Bible as a way to teach ourselves how to

also cry out to God and to say, we want here, Lord. Today, I want us to answer

the question, how can we say to God we want you here when we are in pain and grief? What does

prayer in the time of grief look like? Now, to answer this, first I want to show us from God's word why we should pray in the midst

of grief.

And then I want us to learn from the prophet Habakkuk how to pray in the midst of grief,

how to pray in the midst of suffering and longing.

Now here at Church of the City, if you've been coming for any amount of time, you may recognize

the name Habakkuk because we love to quote the beginning of Habakkuk chapter 3 as we cry out

for revival.
