We're about to go to war

Do you know why?

Do you know why we were in Vietnam? Do you really know why we were in Vietnam? Do you really know why we're in Vietnam?

I'm not suggesting I have some great knowledge. I've spent a probably disturbing amount of time

studying the war and how we entered it.

People think of Vietnam as a late 60s, early 70s.

Eisenhower sent us there.

Kennedy amped it up and then it became Johnson's war and then of

course Nixon. Much more of the fighting during Nixon than Johnson, but it is identified as

Johnson's war. Because Johnson's the one that amped it up. That's when we're getting golf of Tonkin, that's when we're getting Tet offensive.

Nixon understood in a way Johnson didn't. How unpopular the war was. Do you know why the war was so unpopular? First of

all, we had reinstituted the draft. These were the children of men who had gone off to World War II and came home in

45. And now their kids were 20, 22, 23 years old.

Some of them had come home in 45,

wife got pregnant and 47 and what do you know they're at exactly the right age

to go fight the next war and those dads were not in favor of it.

They had seen war.

You showed me somebody talking about going to war everywhere like Lindsay Graham.
