Welcome to the commentary magazine daily podcast. Today is Monday, September 30th, 2024. You will note

that we did not begin with music. Usually we do not begin with music because we are trying to make the point that we are doing something of an

emergency nature and often that is bad news. I did not want to begin today's

podcast with our musical theme, Hope for the best to expect the worst because in the four and a half years that we have been doing this daily

podcast and pretty much the eight years that we have or nine years almost that we have been doing

the podcast altogether but particularly the daily I don't know that there is a day that we have

begun the podcast in a spirit of triumphalism, hope,

a sense of achievement, and a belief that something extraordinary has happened to which we need to make note and to pay credit and that is of course not only the elimination of Hassan Nasrallah, the world's longest

live leading terrorist but the entire remarkable operation that Israel is continuing to perform in degrading and

destroying Hezbollah even as it is degrading and destroying Hamas. This is a day of celebration for us here,

unalloyed, uncomplicated, and so we're not expecting the worst for a long it's been a long time since we didn't expect the worst.

Maybe we are expecting tough times ahead and rough times ahead and difficulties ahead.

But this is a day in which our hopes for the best

were achieved and I wanted to pay tribute to that along with my colleagues here.
