Joy is a Christian Science practitioner from Boston, Massachusetts.

I joined my husband who was waiting in a long line to enter a museum. A man behind my husband felt that I was

cutting in line. He got very upset with me and told us to go to the back of the line. I tried to

explain from my perspective and told him to go ahead of us. I put my hand gently on his shoulder,

inviting him to move forward. But he abruptly turned toward me and growled, don't touch me. I was sort of

stunned and just stepped back a little and said nothing. But I did begin to pray.

I reached out to God to help me because I was hurt, upset, and felt misunderstood.

Then the words that had seemed so scathing a minute before took on a new meaning.

Don't touch me, mortal thoughts and feelings.

And don't touch him either.

It occurred to me that in the truth of being as taught in Christian science,

we are both touched only by the Christ,

God's message to his creation of our spiritual wholeness, which always brings

resolution and healing. I listened quietly to hear what God was asking me to do. I felt impelled

to sort of lean in toward him and say with my whole heart, I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to do anything wrong or to offend you.

He reached out with both hands and clasped mine.

Then he said, let's just be at peace.

And of course, I agreed. Throughout our tour of the museum,

I kept running into him. At one point, I said, kidding him, you can't get rid of me. And he said,
