Summary

What exactly was Jesus charged with that led to His crucifixion?  What was His crime?  There were two—BLASPHEMY and SEDITION.  The charges were not legitimate but they were trumped up by His adversaries.  The Jews demanded that Pontius Pilate release Barabbas and crucify Jesus instead.  There is an irony in that exchange that Pastor Gary explains for us in today’s teaching entitled, “We are Barabbas.”

All right, Luke 22 and 23, if you have your Bible's open there and out of those two chapters.

I've been saying over the last couple of weeks, as we draw near to the end of the gospel of Luke,

0:10.0

that the last six chapters from 19 to 24 detail the final week of Jesus' life.

And even though today is technically Palm Sunday on the Christian calendar, we've already

0:23.2

passed that chapter. I'm going to stay on track because next Sunday we're going to conclude

himself.

Peter denied Jesus, was also remorseful about it, but he joined his

remorse with repentance, and he was then gripped by brokenness. He was a broken man, and God

can work with broken people. And so God restored him. So we went from remorse to repentance to restoration,

Jesus then being betrayed into the hands of the Roman army, a band of soldiers that have come

1:24.3

to the Garden of Gassimini, arrest Jesus, and they take him to the

1:28.4

Jewish ruling council, otherwise known as the Sanhedron. So I want you to think of them as somewhat

1:33.4

like a religious Supreme Court, and Jesus has been hauled before them, and that's where our

1:39.6

story picks up today. Here in Luke 22, we're going to start at verse 66, and then it'll move into

1:46.4

chapter 23. But here in Luke 22, verse 66, it says, as soon as it was day, the elders
