Welcome to Nintendo Voice Chat IGN's Weekly Nintendo Show. I'm your host, Zach Ryan. And I'm joined today by four folks who are definitely on my friends list.

0:10.5

Parrish Niter. Hello, Zach. Tom Marks. It's been a while. Tom. How you been? Has been. It's been good. Good. And Casey DeFritis.

0:17.4

Casey, what's up? Hi, Zach. Hi, Brian. Hi, hi everyone. What's Brian? Brian's in New Jersey with he took Babby over there to show his family. Yeah,

0:26.6

nice. Babby's about the age where you take him over there and show them all. Showing Babby where Brian was originally formed. That's right. That's right.

0:33.6

So Brian won't be with us today except for in our hearts. A lot of a lot of stuff that we're going to talk about today. We're going to talk about some sales.

0:41.3

Numbers from Nintendo news. I know. Yeah, yeah, I had this conversation with you yesterday a little bit, but I was like

0:47.5

I'm tired of talking about sales on this show, but when when the news is this big and when it's this good, I feel like there's probably good news, right?

0:54.0

Plenty of room to have those kinds of conversations. So we're going to talk a little bit about that. We got some news about some new tournaments that are coming along.

1:02.0

And then of course we had that weird non direct this morning out of

1:07.3

an indirect. Yeah, and Nintendo Indivirate as a matter of fact. Yeah, that's what we're going to call it the indirect.

1:13.0

So why don't we go ahead and get started? Well, hang on. I'm going a little fast because before we get started, I want to ask everybody how they're doing. What's what's new in your life?

1:21.2

How are your two dogs doing fine? The rain has stopped, which means they no longer threaten to pee and poop in the house. Good. That's good. That's good news. Tom, anybody pee and poop in your house?

1:31.3

No one that shouldn't be great. Okay. I get you know off. Yeah, I know. I know. No, we're good. That's good. My straps put up and nothing came back. So it's great. Nice.

1:40.0

Who's what about what about you? The heavy rains have brought flooding into my house. Just enough for it to be slightly annoying, but not enough to warrant leaving.

1:49.3

So everything's just been real moist. Yeah. Okay. Congrats. Gross word. Moving on. First topic.

1:56.9

Sales for the switch are absolutely nuts. And I wanted to dive into that, but I didn't want to bury the lead. Let's get this out of the way right from the beginning.

2:04.4

These numbers come from MPD, sort of their year and wrap up. And first and foremost, we're going to lead with this for the first time since 2009. Nintendo is the highest software revenue generating publisher of the year.

2:15.8

That means 10 years. Wow. A whole decade that Nintendo hasn't been in the number one spot. Now they come roaring back. So back to the wee age. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. That's good for them. I mean, they took a chance by merging their console and handheld lines with a switch and it's paying off now. That's great.

2:31.2

It's especially an impressive in a year that we've kind of been like, you know, 20 teams a little lighter for Nintendo first party stuff. And it's like, no, I mean, it's still in it. Yeah.

2:42.8

So it's actually, I mean, it's it's very rare that the first year of a console launch is the most successful year. Usually console business grows over time. It's the library grows and marketing goes up. You know, it's year two.

2:56.0

Year three is often bigger than year two and so forth. And so it's good to see that that trend holds true for the switch. It means that it's a vibrant platform that's growing. Yeah. And to Tom's point, it's interesting that the switch managed to do so any year where they didn't have. Right.

3:11.8

A Zelda and a Mario and, you know, they're they're major hitters weren't weren't well with the exception of smash, I suppose.
