Hey everybody, you're a friendly neighborhood podcast editor producer, Kato here with

0:08.6

a quick content warning on one of the clips we included from the movie thief at approximately

0:15.6

two hours and 17 minutes and 27 seconds. There is a clip from the end of the film that

0:21.4

includes a threat of rape and racial slurs. It's a pretty short clip, only about two minutes.

0:28.4

So when you hear Rob call out about it, he mentions that it's pretty gruesome. So you can skip

0:36.4

it ahead two minutes apart from that. I hope you all enjoy. Peace.

Welcome to Waypoint's Michael Mann project. I guess we'll call that. We're working on a title

1:04.8

for the rest of the Waypoint Plus movie podcasts, but this is already going to be kind of an odd

1:11.7

series that we're going to be running off and on for the foreseeable future. We are going to be

1:18.3

looking at the films of Michael Mann and today we are starting with 1981's thief. Here to help

1:26.5

me do that, we've got two very good friends of Waypoint first, Dielotzina. Okay. And we also welcome

1:36.7

from Nextlander, Alex Navarro. Thank you for having me and also who called this the Michael Mann

1:42.2

project and not going down the manhole. That's a good name. There's so many things you do with

1:51.4

manhole too. Anyway, yes, there is. So Michael Mann is a director that Alex, I think you and I

2:02.4

are both just mildly obsessed with. Yeah. I would call it milder session. And I think he's

2:10.3

like there's a couple of things I believe about Michael Mann. One is that he is extremely easy to

2:18.2

underrate because he makes such iconic dude type movies. It's very easy to see him as sort of the

2:27.2

king of the men's dorm room movie night. He makes movies about guys ripping shit off. There's

2:37.8

an easy way that stereotype thief being a movie about two bros on the opposite sides of the law,

2:45.2

both trying to take down, take each other down. That is one way to read him. But I think one,

2:51.7

the body of work is actually much more diverse than that. Like there's a lot more two man's body of

2:56.6

work beyond movies like heat. And second, I think even in those films that are in some ways stereotypical
