Good morning and welcome to way too early. I'm Jacob Soberoff on this Monday, August 30th.

Louisiana residents are sheltering in place this morning as Ida. One of the most powerful storms

to ever hit the country continues to crawl across the state. At least one person is dead after a tree

fell on a home near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The storm made landfall early yesterday as a category

four hurricane

on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. More than one million people are still without power

at this hour. The power outage could make the area more susceptible to flooding. And take a look at this

video, a roof being swept away pulled from a building by powerful storm winds.

And then there's this, a NASA astronaut captured these photos of the hurricane from space before it made landfall.

The historic French quarter in New Orleans was hit hard.

Ida causing significant damage throughout the entire city. President Biden

approved Louisiana's request for a disaster declaration over the weekend, and that move releases

federal funding to assist affected areas. To the people of the Gulf Coast, I want you to know that

we're praying for the best and planning cared for the worst.

As soon as the storm passes, we're going to put this, we're going to put the country's full

might behind the rescue and recovery.

Well, let's go right to meteorologist Bill Cairns.

Bill, you've been tracking this thing relentlessly.

I know you've got an update from the National Hurricane Center. Yeah, it's as expected down to a graded to a tropical

storm. So it made landfall 150 mile per hour category four yesterday at about 1 o'clock local time.

And it's taken all the way until now to become a tropical storm. So it's finally weakened down. So in other words,

about 99.5% of the wind damage has already been done. And so that's not going to be a big
