but now to Washington.

And we begin with the latest on the January 6th investigation.

And the revelation from the committee

that former President Donald Trump

tried to make contact with a witness.

A source tells NBC News,

the person is a member of the White House support staff, as yet to be publicly identified.

The lawyer then alerted the committee, which in turn alerted the Justice Department.

Sources told CNN that the person was concerned because they are not someone who routinely communicated with the former president.

When asked to respond, Trump's spokesman pointed to a tweet criticizing Congresswoman Cheney.

Next Thursday's primetime hearing is the last one on the schedule, but the committee is not ruling out future hearings later this summer.
