but we start with the Supreme Court's landmark decision to overturn

Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to an abortion after nearly 50 years. The decision

came after the court's conservative majority ruled 6 to 3 to uphold a Mississippi law that

bans abortions after 15 weeks. But the justices then ruled five to four on

overturning row, with Chief Justice John Roberts, making it clear that his vote was only to side

with the Mississippi law. The majority opinion on striking down row was written by Justice

Samuel Alito. He writes this, the Constitution makes no reference to abortion and no such right is implicitly protected

by any constitutional provision. He goes on to write that the procedure is not, quote,

deeply rooted in this nation's history and tradition.

Thirteen states have trigger laws that ban abortions immediately or within 30 days of the ruling.

Several more states are expected to follow with legislation to make the procedure illegal.
