Good morning and welcome to way too early, the show that's offering all of you a friendly

reminder that Sunday is Mother's Day. I am Casey Hunt on this Friday, May 7th.

We'll start with the news.

In the United States, COVID-19 infections are now at their lowest levels in seven months, a sign

that vaccines are working and saving lives. Deaths and serious illnesses related to the coronavirus

have dropped significantly as well. The U.S. averaged about 48,000 new cases

per day over the past week. That is a 13% improvement over the week before, and it's the

first time since October that average daily cases have dipped below 50,000, according to Axios.

Over half of all American adults have now received at least one shot of a vaccine,

and 41% of adults are fully vaccinated. Also, some more good news on this front. Two new studies

show the Pfizer-Biontek vaccine is highly effective against virus variants. Researchers used real-world data from vaccinated people in Qatar and Israel,

with both studies together using over 400,000 people.

During the time of the studies, the UK variant and the South African variant

were circulating heavily in those areas,
