Good morning and welcome to way too early on this Wednesday, March 30th. I'm Jonathan Lemire. Let's start with the news. More than a month into Russia's invasion of

Ukraine, the first significant signs of progress are being reported in peace talks between the two

sides. Representatives from the countries met for more than three hours in Turkey yesterday,

following weeks of fighting. In those talks, the New York Times reports that Ukrainian officials agreed to declare

their country permanently neutral, abandoning any hope of joining NATO. Ukrainian negotiators also

reportedly agreed to discuss possibly conceding some of their own territory, which Russia

has already claimed for itself. In exchange, a group of

outside nations would provide, quote, security guarantees to Ukraine in the event of a future

attack from Russia. This hypothetical group, which would potentially include the United States,

would reportedly commit to provide a Ukraine with military aid and a no-fly zone.

It's unclear, however, if any outside nations have signed on to this guarantee or ever

would.

And despite yesterday's talks, no end to the war is believed to be near.
