Russia stepped up its offensive in Ukraine, bombarding and shelling major Ukrainian cities

while pushing to encircle and cut off the capital of Kiev.

Meanwhile, Russian troops entered Carson yesterday as conflicting reports emerge whether the

key southern port city had fallen. Russia's defense ministry claims that they have taken

control of Carson, but a Ukrainian official said the battle continues. According to the city's

mayor, Russian troops were in the streets and had entered the council building. He also said

that as many as 300 Ukrainians were killed in intense fighting. The capture of Kersen, a strategic
