As you know, reciprocal tariffs, so whatever they charge us, we're charging them.

Nobody can complain about that. Whatever it is, it doesn't even matter what it is.

If they charge us, if they charge us 25 or 20%, or 10%, or 2%, or 200%, then that's what we're charging them. And so I don't know why people get

upset about that because there's nothing more fair than that. President Trump, they're defending

his trade wars yesterday at the White House, ahead of new retaliatory measures by one of America's

top trading partners. The question is, how high will Trump's tariffs go?

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, Democrats say Republicans will have to pass a temporary funding bill

without their support. The question is, does the GOP have the votes to actually avoid a government

shutdown? My math says no. Also ahead, we'll dig into massive cuts at the Department of Education.

The question is, how will the layoffs there impact the support that it provides for millions of students

I'm Ali Vitale on this Thursday, March 13th, and we will start with the news down here,

not up in space. We begin with the latest escalation in President Trump's trade war. Canada's retaliatory tariffs are now in effect. The country has imposed 25% tariffs on $21 billion of

U.S. goods. That includes taxes on steel and aluminum, as well as computers, sports equipment,

and cast iron products. The new Canadian duties are on top of the 25% counter tariffs that were

added to $30 billion worth of U.S. goods on March 4th. Those were in response to tariffs that

President Trump eventually pulled back after a severe stock market sell-off two days later.

The European Union, meanwhile, has already announced their retaliatory measures.

They're set to take place on April 1st.

President Trump was pressed yesterday on his inconsistent approach to these tariffs.
