The Pentagon says that U.S. special forces carried out a successful counterterrorism mission in northwest Syria early this morning.

It's unclear who was targeted, but Syrian sources tell

Reuters it's believed to be a leading jihadist. The Pentagon says there are no U.S. casualties,

while local residents and activists say women and children are among the dead. The U.S. has killed

several al-Qaeda leaders in the region in recent months.

This also comes as ISIS tries to reassert itself there.

The National Archives, meanwhile, now says it plans to turn over former Vice President

Mike Pence's records to the January 6th Committee.

In a letter to Donald Trump, the agency said the records will be delivered on March 3rd

unless a court order intervenes.

The former president has tried to shield his White House documents claiming privilege,

but he lost that battle last month when the Supreme Court rejected that effort.
