The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president.

And having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole,

which the defeated president kept shouting into the largest megaphone on planet Earth.

The top Republican in the Senate says President Trump is practically and morally responsible for the

January 6th attack on the Capitol.

If he really feels that way, the question is, why did he vote to acquit?

Plus, the impeachment phase is over,

but possible criminal investigations may just be heating up.

The U.S. Senate acquitted former President Trump for a second time this past weekend.

The vote was 57 to 43, and that was 10

votes short of the 67 that would have been needed to convict. The seven Republicans who voted

to convict made it the most bipartisan verdict in a presidential impeachment trial ever.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board calls it Trump's non-vindication.
