In an effort to detect and contain any cases of the Omicron variant coming into the United States,

top federal health officials are expanding a surveillance program at some of the nation's biggest and busiest airports.

Four international airports in New York, Atlanta, Newark, and San Francisco will be enhancing

screening measures. Here's what CDC director Rochelle Walensky said during yesterday's

White House COVID briefing.

This program allows for increased COVID testing for specific international arrivals,

increasing our capacity to identify those with COVID-19 on arrival to the United States,

and enhancing our surveillance for the Omicron variant. To be crystal clear, we have far more tools

to fight the variant today than we had at this time last year.
