We've got a new development this morning in the Mar-a-Lago documents case. The Washington Post reporting that former president Donald Trump asked one of his

lawyers in early 2022 to tell the National Archives that Trump had returned all materials requested

by the agency. But that lawyer, Alex Cannon, declined to do so

because he was not sure if that claim was true. That's according to people familiar with the matter.

We now know that, in fact, was not accurate because thousands more government documents,

some marked highly classified, were found at Maralago through a

grand jury subpoena back in May, and then, of course, that FBI search of the property in August.

The Post reports that after months of stonewalling by Trump's representatives,

National Archives officials threatened to get the Justice Department or Congress involved

if all original presidential records were not returned.
