Hey, welcome to Dark Outdoors. This is Chester Moore. And probably the topic I've been asked the most about since I started doing this podcast is the smiley face killer phenomenon. The phenomenon of basically college age young adult men found in water.

They're blamed on drowning, accidental drowning, falling off in a river drunk, but, you know,

corners and things will say the body has been in the water 48 hours and they've been missing for a month.

It's a very strange phenomenon. It was first kind of recognized by some police

officers in New York City. And then early in my understanding of it, I came across William Ramsey.

William Ramsey investigates in every season of dark outdoors. Unfortunately, we've had a reason

to talk about new cases, but he has been kind enough to come on here.

And he has a really incredible new book that I'm fairly well versed in a phenomenon, not an

expert, but kind of know the basic keynote cases. When I read his new book available on Amazon,

The Smiley Face Killers, investigating suspicious water deaths on college age men in the

US and the world. It took it to a whole different level to see the scale of what's going on.

And of course, in my home state of Texas, the cases that are making global news now in Lady Bird Lake,

been by that lake a bunch of times over the years when I used to do

more work around the Austin area. It used to be, you know, this whole lake, it's like a community

area. People, you know, there are people that kayak fish and there are people who just walk the

shorelines. It's not real big, but there's a big story happening there right now. And so welcome back to the

Yeah, it's a great question. I mean, it goes back to like you mentioned these two this one new york detective and his partner so it was gannon

and d'warte was his partner and then he kind of synced up with a professor named gilbertson

who i think was in o'clock in wola, Wisconsin. They noticed the same phenomenon.
