Hey, it's Will Salatin from The Bullwork. I want to show you today one of the most embarrassing

0:05.3

interviews of the entire Trump administration. So it happened on Sunday, and it's Scott Besson,

0:11.9

the Treasury Secretary, and he's twisting himself into a pretzel to justify Trump's totally

0:19.0

crazy threats against Greenland.

0:21.6

Okay, so on Saturday, Trump posted an insane message on truth social.

0:25.6

He said that unless Europe agrees to sell Greenland in the United States,

0:31.6

he's going to tariff a bunch of European countries, all the Scandinavian countries,

0:36.6

Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland,

0:38.5

plus France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

0:43.1

And Trump accused the Europeans of playing a dangerous game against America,

0:48.0

and he said strong measures will have to be taken against them.

0:51.7

So he's implicitly threatening a military confrontation with Europe to get Greenland.

0:58.6

So obviously this is completely insane.

1:01.3

But on Sunday, Bessent went on Meet the Press, and he tried to justify Trump's insanity.

1:07.2

So let me take you through his 10 most embarrassing arguments. Ready? Okay, rationalization

1:20.1

Greenland from Russia, from some other area, we would get dragged in. So better now, peace through strength, make it part of the

1:29.6

United States. The United States needs to be in control to prevent a war and that we do not want

1:36.8

to get dragged into someone else's war. Oh, no, we don't want to get dragged into somebody else's war.

1:43.3

See, if we just hang back and wait, somebody else might go in and start a war in Greenland. See, they would attack Greenland. And then Greenland would drag in Denmark. And then Denmark would drag in NATO. And then NATO would drag in us. So Trump and Besson have a much, much better idea.

2:02.6

Why don't we just cut out the middlemen and we'll go in now and start our own war to take Greenland?

2:10.6

See, we'll start a trade war, and if that doesn't work, we'll start a shooting war to take Greenland.
