Summary
After the fire, the house didn’t feel haunted. It felt hollow.
A month after her little brother’s death, Sidney began noticing small changes in the hallway at the end of the house. A photograph that didn’t match reality. A closet light turning on behind a closed door. A faint tap on her shoulder that felt strangely familiar.
Nothing violent. Nothing obvious. When she whispered his name, the house seemed to answer. Lights flickered. Doors shifted. For a moment, it felt like comfort reaching back toward her.
Until the responses grew bolder. Until the laughter came from inside the closet.
And Sidney had to ask the question she had been avoiding: was it really him — or something that had learned exactly what her grief wanted to see?
