The mere fact that we can sit here together today is because we live in a country that

Inalienable God-given rights enshrined in our constitution and inherent to each of us,

the right to free speech, freedom of religion, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Our civil liberties that are spelled out in the constitution act as a restraint on how

These rights are called negative rights because they dictate not what our government can provide

for us, but instead what they cannot take away.
