Summary

Mike Ergo served as a Marine rifleman with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines from 2001-2005 and was deployed to Iraq twice. Coming home from combat was rough. My body returned, but my mind and spirit were still in Fallujah for many years.

What followed was a tsunami of overdue emotions and the feeling un-processed trauma. Step by step, Mike made peace with my demons. Mike walked willingly into his deepest fears and let them guide him to his heart’s desires. Through meditation and endurance sports, he found comfort in discomfort.

Mike had an intense mystical experience that he only recently has begun talking about.  Here he shares the details of that experience and how he has used this to help him overcome his trauma.

This is truly one of the most vulnerable and inspirational stories and I am proud to share it.

But in the interview with Mike, today's guest,

I was so moved by what he shared

spiritual experience and really integrated it into his life and made real profound changes

0:46.8

that I didn't want to cut it up and I wanted you, the listener, to be able to hear his story in his voice in its

entirety. So here's Mike's story. My name is Mike Ergo and I am a United States Marine Corps

veteran and I served 2001 to 2005 and deployed to Iraq twice.

1:13.7

And as an infantry Marine, my job consisted of patrolling, kicking down doors,

1:23.4

you know, finding the guys we were trying to get and getting them.

1:34.3

And that was, that was the majority of my job and there was a lot of downtime too. So I had a very interesting experience, my second deployment in Iraq.

1:39.3

Both times I was deployed just for seven months.

1:43.3

And my experience, which I'm still, I think we were talking about it before, still trying to

1:50.8

categorize or understand what we even call it, was it took place during November of 2004.

1:59.4

And I was involved in what was called Operation Phantom Fury,

2:04.7

and it was this large-scale combat operation in the city of Duluja, Marraq.

2:11.2

And it was a lot of people waiting for us to come into the city and they were ready to fight to death.

2:18.2

And so it was fighting house to house for over a month.
